We should overcome anxiety in the face of persecution. We deal with fear and anxious thoughts by humbling ourselves to God 1 Peter 5: 6-7. Humility is a weapon to overcome persecution, we often question God when we are anxious thinking that God might have forgotten us. Apostle John was pit in hot boiling oil, we often think of the apostles as super Christians. However, they were probably also feeling anxious. If they were able to endure because of God's strength and power. Trusting God and knowing who He is and what He has done for us helps us to endure. Psalm 23 was probably written when King David was running away from his son Absalom, but King David trusted God.
Another way we overcome anxiety in the face of persecution is understanding and knowing who is against us. The enemy wants to intimidate us and destroy our faith. Be watchful, be aware that this enemy is behind the persecution. Be immersed in the Word of God to overcome. Our faith is tested when we are in the fire, resist the enemy and he will flee. Your attack is not isolated, other people are being attacked too, you are not alone, be encouraged by other people's testimonies. Pray for endurance, when Jesus was tested in the wilderness (Matthew 4), He responded with scripture.
We can also overcome anxiety in the face of persecution by knowing who is going to win in the end, Jesus has the victory. Be reminded that the anxious thoughts are tempation. God is the storehouse of grace and hope, one day we will be completely restored (1 Peter 5: 10).

Read Acts 2: 22-36
Peter proved that he was from God by all the miracles and wonders he did in Jesus'name. Even death could not hold Jesus from life. Peter quotes King David in his great speech; Psalm 16 ""For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave". King David was not referring to himself in the psalm because he died and did not ascend to heaven but Jesus did. Jesus is greater than King David, He is the fulfillment of all the messianic prophecies Acts 2:36

The Apostles in Acts 1: 14, were constantly united in prayer. Missing from them was Judas, the one who took a bribe to betray Jesus. Judas was not the only one who had shortcomings among Jesus's disciples. Peter denied Jesus three times. James and John thought they were better than the other disciples and deserved a special place with Jesus. While Thomas doubted Jesus' resurrection unless he saw the nail marks in his hands and put his finger where the nails were, and put his hand into his side (John 20: 25). The difference with Peter and Thomas from Judas, is that when they were confronted by the truth, they all acknowledged that Jesus is "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28). They trusted in Jesus after their shortcomings and had faith in Jesus.
Although Judas was remorseful, he lacked faith that Jesus would forgive him, he trusted himself more than he trusted Jesus. Proverbs 3:5-6 says "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

We do outreach beacuse Jesus did it and he told us to do it as well, he also showed us how to do it. John 4 shows us who Jesus also reached out to, here we see Jesus talking with a Samaritan woman who was a social outcast. In Luke 19: 1 - 10, Zaccheraus is also another person that Jesus first reached out to when he entered Jericho, he chose to dine with him. In both scenarios Jesus's outreach was to the social outcasts and sinners, he made a point to surround himself with them because Luke 5:31-32 says "“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Psalm 84 is a song or poem that inspires us to look up to God, and to find our strength in Him. May our hearts long to be in His presence, through the valleys and in times of joy. Trust God, and look up!

This week we read from Philippians 4 and we learned about the importance of our thoughts. God's Word tells us not to worry, but to pray instead. It also tells us to fix our thoughts on things that are true and pure and admirable. Let's use our minds wisely.

This week we looked at Philippians 3, which talks about the priceless value of knowing Jesus. All our earthly efforts and accomplishments are relatively worthless, compared to the importance of salvation, which can only happen through Jesus. Nothing on earth as important as knowing Jesus.

The Bible says we should have the same attitude that Jesus had. Attitudes are important, and choosing our attitude is a gift which nobody can take away from us. Jesus demonstrated an attitude of humility, sacrifice and service, not self-interest or personal gain. He chose obedience to God over everything else.
